news to me

I am a canadian blacksmith, and interested in gasification, charcoal production, and self sufficiengy in general. Would it be possible or desirable to create a secondary burn (ie alternate fuel source) for the smoke to burn off tars while retaining the charcoal for other uses? It would be nice to power a generator from a charcoal kiln. As a blacksmith I would be using a large amount of charcoal for forging proceses, welding is handy as well. Any responses would be appreciated.
